D*** van Laanen was one of the more prominent Singer drivers in the U.S. during the Fifties, racing with the likes of Ken Miles, Phil Hill and John Von Neumann. You can see the car in action as #133 at this clip of Torrey Pines 1954 http://vimeo.com/9378621


Inset - Ralph Bush races his modified Twin Carb at Pomona in 1960. The car was purchased from Ralph by a SoCal collector who has now passed it and about 250 other cars on to his son.

The car as seen today is currently for sale in California at a most reasonable price.

Still racing after 74 years. No 48 was one of the first Singer Motors works cars to hit Le Mans in 1934 raced by Black and Baker.

Here it is seen at the 2008 Phillip Island Historic Motor Races where it was driven by Clare Surtees (standing).

Wilhelmus Van Gemert and Johan De Swart competing in the 2007 Peking to Paris Rally. The indomitable Singer Le Mans came in 16 out of 60 in its class and earned the True Grit Trophy for its efforts.

A truly arduous race with Wilhelmus and Johan at one point steering the car through the Mongolian desert with luggage straps due to a broken drop arm.

A Nine Sports similar to this, with minor modifications from stock, was the first Singer to compete at Le Mans in 1933.

KV 5669 at speed at the 2007 Brooklands Centenary. A two seater Le Mans with chassis number 48500. It has aluminum coachwork, a doorless body, a short bonnet and cycle wings front and rear. It is one of the two surviving members of the Red, White and Blue Works team that participated in the Alpine trials.

Also appearing at the Brooklands Festival was a recreation of KV 5670, the red car of the red, white and blue team cars

built by the Singer Competition Department shortly after it was established in April 1933.

Trials competitions were a favourite amongst Singer owners during the Thirties and helped the Company solidify its market positon with prospective sports car buyers. One of the original and most popular of such Trials was the London to Lands End which is still held to this day.

To the right, James Miller doesn't quite have the steam to finish and has to be winched over the top of the hill in his Singer Le Mans.
