Raced Ford Anglia in SCCA D Sedan, 1966-1968; raced ex-factory Lotus Cortina in SCCA B Sedan, 1968-1970; raced same Lotus Cortina in IMSA, 1969-1970; co-drove Camaro to placing finishes in Sebring 12 Hour, 1970 & 1971. Now co-owner/co-driver of a 1970 Ford Escort B Sedan in CVAR Group 7.
What do you like to do (e.g. vintage race with...)?
I lost axles on my Bugeye but not the Locor. I was following Charles Pitts at Bukttonwillow's "Magic Mtn." and as his Locor topped the hill, went a little light (he turned in too early, I was right behind him in my black Mini) and settled hard on the left rear breaking the axle and turning the car into a ball. I just barely missed the wheel, too. I have a photo of the car, but I don't want to post it on the website. Email me at roddav@msn.com and I'll send it too you. Too bad, he had just bought the car from Todd Gerstengerger for an obscene amount.
Haven't seen or heard from him since...After my crash I was in the new car in six months...as fast as a fat old man can crawl around inside a Mini with a mig welder.
Now that's a good gearbox. I have an OEM works gearbox from the early 60's that's never had oil in it. Keep it as a spare...Don't know why, though. We have one out of an Alan Mann Anglia in the Locor...been there since 1968 and no problems save one synchro in Mexico City, 1973.
I was a little worried about the cars axles, OEM and use a set of Quaife full floaters...I'll post a photo of them right now....Nice setup, requiring only an hour or so on the lathe to make them fit...I was not too pleased you could say...not for a thousand plus.
Still have Detroit lockers in 3.9, 4.12 and 4.44, could use a 3.7 or 3.55 if they are cheap enough. I'm not sure with the vintage type Hoosier radials they will ever be needed.
I've meant to call you a dozen times(still have your number)...I'll get to it one of these days. I hear you got the Leeson from Clay's car...I always hated that gearbox...never could shift it properly especially 2nd from 4th.
We should have our Locor together by next week and perhaps have it back on the dyno by July. Cracked the cylinder head on first try, but now have one of John McCoy's heads in place...Hoping for something close to 190hp with a tq curve suitable for this aero brick...fingers crossed! I know what you mean about selling the Locor. I tried to sell it in '74 and couldn't. Brought it back as a GT-3 (later 4) in '80 and finally sold it in early '90's for $15k with spares. My son found it while he was in Germany and bought it in 04 for $24k and now, after another $50k it's about ready for vintage. Racers are nuts!

Looked at your photos, would like to see a few more closeups of the Escort, though.
