When I was a young kid, back in the '60's, Austin had a road race for a few years along with AquaFest. I remember a Merlyn being chased by a Cobra. The Cobra looked like it was trying to bite the little Merlyn. The Cobra chased it the whole race, but never could catch that Merlyn!!!! It was a GREAT race. I'll never forget it.
Right Terry, that may have been Charlie Barns in his Merlyn Mk 6 that I sold him in 1964. I never raced at the Aqua Festival in Austin, but was the Chief Safety Steward in 69, or 70, can't remember that far back. I raced the Merlyn Mk III Fjr's throughout the S.W. from 61 through 65, Bahama Speed Weeks in 61, and Sebring in 62.Formula Jr. races. By the way Charlie Barns won the G/Mod. SCCA championship in that car in 64.
