Here is a rare and yet affordable opportunity to rebuild a historic and well-documented pre-war Bugatti-Ford Special which was highly competitive in  its day and will be again when completed.

Originally a Bugatti T35,  it was re-bodied in the style of an ERA and fitted with a Ford V8 Flathead when the original engine blew up. It went on to race successfully in Southern Ireland in pre-war events and is featured in the book Green Dust - Ireland's Unique Motor Racing History 1900-1939. It was successful in post-war racing too, before forming part of a well-known collection until the 1990s.

Even though the Bugatti chassis has been removed (in order to resurrect the original T35) much of the original Bugatti Ford Special remains and has been recognized in its own right as an historic racing car. To that end the UK's VSCC has given a letter of support indicating its acceptance of the car once rebuilt.

What we have is a comprehensive kit of parts, many original, which can be rebuilt to resurrect this well known and Historic Special, which was highly competitive in its day, and will be again.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for your email. At your suggestion I'll update the advert with the following info and photo.
The kit for sale comprises of the following original parts:

1. Ford Flat Head engine with quadruple intake manifold and carbs from the USR Special.
Engine is currently disassembled for inspection. Newly rebored, ported with new pistons.
120BHP

2. 3 speed gear box from the above

3. Radiator

4. Scuttle frame to include the pedal assembly.

5.Talbot Front Brakes and original Bugatti back plates & Talbot Drums

6. Front 42mm Hubs for the Talbot brakes.

7. Stub axles/Talbot to fit above

8. Tail mounted petrol tank.with flip top cap.

9. Rear Body work.Tail.

10. Side panels to cockpit.

11. Original Seat

12. Solid front axle (from Sir Malcolm Campbell's T35)

13. Old replica Bugatti chassis. Believed to be by Alan Wragg.

14.T30/T35 Bugatti steering box and drop arm.

15.T30/35 Bugatti steering wheel.

We have assembled these parts with a borrowed Bugatti rear axle. Otherwise what you see is what you get. In rebuilding the car the new owner would source the following replica Bugatti items, both to minimise costs and capitalise on modern parts for racing/safety:

1.Replica Bugatti Axle (or possibly a Ford axle)

2.Front and Rear springs. .

3.Rear spring Bolts.X4

4.Spring hangers X2

5.Rear axle tie rods

6.Front shock absorbers.

7.Rear shock absorbers.

8. Body

9. Instruments

Please see the car as is, roughly assembled for inspection.

If you have any other queries please let me know

Kind regards

Roy
