Lamborghini has always been regarded as one of the craziest carmakers of all.

And this new version of the range topping Aventador fits the Italian manufacturer's profile perfectly.

The Aventador S is expensive, yellow and pin-you-to-your-seat fast - here's everything you need to know.

Just like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf, mega expensive supercars get a mid-life facelift too. 

This means subtle tweaks and styling changes to give them a new dose of life half-way through its production run.

But there aren't many cars that get an extra 40bhp as part of a refresh.

Lamborghini has decided that the 691bhp produced by the outgoing Aventador just isn't enough power for a car that can get caught in an M25 traffic jam. 

The halo model has now been replaced by this - the Aventador S - which churns 730bhp out of the same, yet tuned, thunderous 6.5-litre V12 motor. 

Only the hardcore 740bhp Aventador SV has more. 

To the naked eye, you might not be able to tell it apart from the old car in these official images released by Lamborghini this week.

But get your microscope out and you'll spot the elongated carbon-fibre front splitter and ducts in the front bumper that are designed to make the 'S' slice through the air like a Lamborghini cuts through a bank balance.

Round the back, there's a new diffuser to generate more downforce, a huge exhaust portal for three pipes, and an active rear wing that extends when your travelling at licence losing speeds. 

According to Lambo, the aesthetic changes alone improve downforce by 130 per cent over the outgoing Aventador and it's also 50 per cent more efficient at high speeds. Ideal for those quick shopping runs to Waitrose.

But it's the changes under the banana-coloured shell that will get potential suitors hot under the collar.

The extra grunt from the engine - enough to propel the car from 0 to 62mph in 2.9 seconds - is still sent to all four wheels. But, for the first time on a Lamborghini 'mass production model', so is the steering.

It gets the same four-wheel-steering system as the limited-edition £2million Centenario, which should make the Aventador easier to drive in town and a pinned-to-the-tarmac racer at the track.

The interior has also been slightly ungraded, with a new digital screen replacing the traditional instrument cluster behind the steering wheel

Other upgrades include revisions to the stability control system, customisable driving modes for the road and circuit and a TFT digital screen replacing the instrument cluster on the dashboard - which is likely to be the same unit you get in the latest £30,000 Audi TT.

Expensive to run? You bet it is. Lamborghini claims it will do 16.9mpg (if you have feet made of feathers) so there will be plenty of trips to fill up with petrol, while a CO2 figure of 394g/km means you'll be paying top whack on car tax for the foreseeable.

Oh, and don't forget the price - at £225,995 before tax, expect to pay a minimum of £270,000 if you want one when it arrives late in 2017.
