The ERA’s of Prince Bira and Peter Whitehead from the Limerick 1930′s Grands Prix will for the first time in 75 years race once again in Limerick!
We are thrilled to welcome the two ERA owners Paddins Dowling and Charles McCabe who will recreate history in 2013 when they once again race their unique cars at the Irish Festival of Speed Circuit. Both Irishmen, who now live in San Francisco will travel especially for the event and if their performances at Monaco, Goodwood, Monterey and beyond are anything to go by we really are in for a treat!
ERA R5B “Remus”1.5litre was made in 1.5litre form in 1936 for owner Prince Chula and driver Prince Bira. The White Mouse team had already got the R2B “Romulus” in their stables so named R5B “Remus” after the Roman Twins. Prince Bira would have come 1st or 2nd if he had not crashed at Punches Cross on the last lap of the 1936 Limerick Grand Prix. The team had several other successes however winning at the Albi Grand Prix and at Brooklands.
ERA R10B 1.5litre R10B was made in 1936 as a 1.5litre in black for Peter Whitehead. Whitehead and his regular driving partner, Peter Walker, drove the car singly and as co-drivers. Whitehead finished 3rd in the 1936 Limerick Grand Prix. The best result of the year being a third in the important Donington Park Grand Prix for the pair.
1930′s Whitehead & Bira ERA’s to Race again in Limerick!
