(February 22, 2013) – Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling the world’s most significant and valuable collector cars,  is delighted to announce a spectrum of leading 1960s and 1970s performance cars from Italy, Germany and the United States. Collectively, these ten cars epitomize the performance era, where race-derived engineering fused with mid-century dramatic design to create a true paradigm of memorable sports cars. Ranging from an exciting 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose Alloy and 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 to a 1967 Chevrolet Yenko Super Camaro 450, these classic high-performers join many other previously-announced significant offerings, including 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic and 1965 Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante, at Gooding & Company’s annual Amelia Island Auction on March 8.

One of approximately 25 alloy-bodied 275 GTBs, this matching-numbers Ferrari is an outstanding example of one of the greatest sports cars in the 1960s, distinguished by its factory six-carb upgrade, Borrani wire wheels, beautiful restoration and vibrant livery.  Delivered new to Rome, this car has been owned by several distinguished collectors and participated in prestigious European events. Significantly, this rare 275 GTB has been certified by Ferrari Classiche and is complete with books and tools. Regarded as one of the most desirable 1960s Ferraris, this six-carb 275 GTB Alloy will be offered in the US for the first time in over three decades at the Amelia Island Auction. A one-owner California car for nearly 30 years, this Dino 246 GTS is a very rare example with fascinating provenance, competition history and unique specifications including a custom-designed fuel-injection system. Raced at Riverside, Willow Springs and the Virginia City Hillclimb, this Dino 24 GTS was driven in period by famed race car drivers Elliot Forbes Robinson and Paul Newman. With a fastidious restoration, this car has received First Place awards at the California Concours d’Automobiles, Le Cercle Concours d’Elegance and Ault Place Concours d’Elegance,  as well as Best of Show Post-War awards at the St. Louis Concours d’Elegance and St. Anthony Fest. Specially outfitted for Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, this Lipstick Coral 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC – the last such example built - was delivered new to the renowned, ultra-socialite’s palace in Tangier, Morocco where luminaries such as Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, Aristotle Onassis and Maria Callas were often entertained. Adorned with a small, green Moroccan Royal Star on both doors, this Ferrari was crafted for one of Ferrari’s most glamorous and wealthy clients. The 365 GTC has since been maintained to exceptional standards and driven sparingly, with only 13,300 miles traveled from new. Formerly the property of Nicolas Cage, the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 being offered is an exciting example of one of Porsche’s most quintessential models. One of only 87 RS 2.7s finished in Signal Yellow, this consummate example with matching-numbers engine, transmission and body panels was originally equipped with rare and desirable factory options such as a sunroof and power windows. Chrysler 300s were among the most powerful and exclusive American vehicles of the 1950s and 1960s. This specific example enjoyed a dynamic life, beginning when Chrysler engineers hand selected it to be one of six Gran Turismo Specials. A very rare and historic Chrysler letter car with racing history, this 1960 300 F is one of only two GT Specials known to exist today. Driven by legendary Daytona Beach driver Gregg Zeigler, this Chrysler placed first in the famous 1960 Daytona Beach “Flying Mile” Race, marking an important and memorable racing achievement for the marque. This Saturn Gold example is one of only 32 W-30 convertibles built in 1971 with the preferred four-speed manual gearbox. The legendary Yenko Super Camaro was developed by famed Chevrolet racer Don Yenko and gifted engineer D*** Harrell. One of only 54 examples built in the first year of production and approximately 10 remaining, this rare,  top-of-the-line Chevrolet is possibly the finest 1967 Super Camaro 450 in existence. This car uniquely features a desirable fiberglass Corvette-style “stinger” hood, Rally Sport trim with a center console, Walnut grained steering wheel and an NHRA-approved scatter shield.  Since its restoration by Yenko Camaro expert Dave Tinnell, this ultra-rare Super Camaro 450 has been invited to many exclusive Camaro and Yenko gatherings and featured in Bob McClurg’s Yenko: The Man, The Machines, The Legend. This Corvette 427/ 435 Roadster was optioned with a long list of rare factory accessories and is the only unrestored 427/435 known to exist in the rare color combination of Sunfire Yellow over white. Recently honored with a Bloomington Gold SURVIVOR award, this impressively original, matching-numbers Sting Ray has less than 40,000 miles from new and thorough documentation detailing its provenance. Gooding & Company will be conducting its annual Amelia Island Auction on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11 a.m., at the Racquet Park located at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation at 6800 First Coast Highway in Amelia Island, one mile south of the Amelia Island Parkway.
