Last weekend I attended a race at TWS. I arrived with some concern. As a result of my previous blogs One of which found it's way to print. I had heard from others that some folks in the club were unhappy with my blogs. When I arrived I found a number of friends who were very supportive of what I had posted. I did find a few who would not talk to or look at me.
While I was standing around a sprite I once owned, a guy who is a sprite racer and builder from way back looked closely at the sprite and talked to me about it while he checked it out. After some discussion he left. I later heard that he had read some of what I had written and mostly agreed with it. I wonder what he was doing there? He had not been to an event that I can remember in a while. Might hear more about that later.
Later that morning a GP 2 race was run. As usual there was a serious crash, this one involving three sprites/midgets. The story I get was that one older gentleman lost control of his car, left the track and came back across and collected the other two. I was told that blame was placed on the guy who lost control and then collected the other two. I did also hear that someone close to the guy who got the blame said it was really the fault of another driver who was driving wildly but was not involved in the wreck. Ironically the guy doing the blaming about wild driving is one of the most fearless guys on the track. I have seen him leave the track out of control many times. He was also over heard in the pits talking jokingly about rubbing fenders and quarter panels with other cars during the same race. I guess the officials did not see those hits/rubs.
In the last race weekend a similar crash happened but the results were that the guy who lost control and shot across the track and collected another car was not found at fault, instead the guy who got collected was blamed. Also note:a guy who had rolled his car in that same lap, without any help at all was allowed to race his newly repaired car this past weekend...at least till it broke.
I also must note that the latest crash was blamed on a guy who has had a number of crashes. My count is three. There might be more. The ones I know about caused severe damage to cars.
Like I said there are a number of drivers who agree privately with my views. They are just not going to voice those views for fear of special treatment.
I will say it again. The club needs to take stronger steps to reduce the wrecks and the cavalier attitude of a few of the drivers who constantly go off and or crash. How many crashes does it take? How many nice cars need to be bent? Is it going to take someone getting hurt or killed?
Most of the guys and girls racing are good for the sport. As normal just a few guys are the concern. They must learn to drive or get out of the car. Maybe they need to see where the next demolition derby is being run.
That is my view.
