Next season, Formula 1 will institute a series of rules changes. The turbocharged V6 enginesare sticking around, but with better aero and more downforce, the cars will likely be a good bit faster.
For 2017, the cars will get a longer nose and a wider front wing. Behind the front wheels, the barge boards will get significantly larger. The side pods, meanwhile, will be pushed out nearly eight inches.
At the back of the car, the new wing will be both wider and lower, while the diffuser grows two inches in height and width. The tires will be wider, too, by 2.4 inches in front, 3.1 inches in the rear.
We happen to like the wider-all-around look of the new cars. Compared to the current examples, they look much better. But more importantly, these changes could shave a full five seconds off of this year's lap times. Assuming they do, 2017 could end up being a much more exciting season for F1.
