Today is the 19th anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna

Today is the 19th anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna, who died at Imola in 1994 in what was probably the darkest weekend in the history of motorsports. Senna was one of the most talented drivers ever in F1. What was your best memory of him?

For me, it's Donnington 1993. Senna was in an inferior McLaren Ford, which didn't have active suspension. The race was in the wet, where talent comes to the fore and the car takes a back seat.

Senna started…

VIKING PRE-HISTORY

I posted on another forum about the history of the Viking Formula Ford and got some skeptical messages about the designers.  I was involved with the original designers, John Taylor and Arnie Loyning long before that car was conceived.  We were a group of racers in Tacoma Washington back in the 60's. Taylor and Loyning were old high school friends who started out doing solo events along with Marty Loft before they all went SCCA racing in production cars.  Loyning, Taylor and Loft later formed…

Doug Mockett (USA) and Gabriel Perez (MX) will be the prime contenders for the top prize for Pan Am cars in the 2013 Chihuahua Express, April 19-21.  Perez won the Carrera Panamericana handily last October in his new Studebaker.  Expect Paul Hladky (USA) to be up in front as well.

Thus far it looks like around fifty entries, with twenty-two from the US and Canada, a couple from Europe, and one crew from Australia.  One of the…
