A professional location photographer, who, on one of my many
trips abroad, fell in love with Sri Lanka, and the many vintage Minors I saw. I currently live in the state of Indiana, USA.
My famliy and I enjoy rural living, and 20 years ago left the urban settings of Chicago/NYC/London, to pursue our dreams of a slower, simpler life. My families early struggles to adapt to country living are colorfully related in my British wife's book; Bean Blossom Dreams, published by Morrow in NYC. A new edition was republished by the Indiana University Press earlier this year. I continue to photograph, however, I limit my travel these days.
What car(s) do you own?
I am the proud owner of a very original Series II, 803cc, 1953 4 door salon, black Minor, which I bought from it's first and only other owner in the mountains of Sri Lanka, near the city of Kandy. I have owned the car for 25 years, and it is a real runner. It is original in almost every aspect, and recently passed the 5,000 mile mark on it's odometer. It is garage kept, and well-maintained by myself, and a very trusted local mechanic here in rural Indiana. With the growth of the net, all parts are readily available, some from the U.K., and surprisingly, from Denmark and Sri Lanka, where the Minor is a coveted marque to this day. My Morris is a highly esteemed member of our family, and will never be for sale. It will be passed on to my daughter, and continue in our family well until it reaches it's 100th birthday.
What do you like to do (e.g. vintage race with...)?
I like to run my Morris on the country roads of central Indiana, which surprisingly resemble the hill country roads of Sri Lanka, where the car spent it's first thirty years. I also enjoy tinkering with and servicing the car.Sometimes, our family will attend the odd meet, or picnic, where the Morris is always admired.
What clubs do you belong to?
MMOC of America, and now here.
What would you like to do (e.g. go to race school; get into Vintage Racing)?
See my Morris take first prize for being "cherry". This means that it would be appreciated for it's used, but original condition.
