You are right on the money with this one Dennis , it started life as one of 3 works Alfa powered
Formula 2 cars at the HWM (Hersham and Walton Motors) factory in 1950 and was driven by
Stirling Moss . Since then it has been rebuilt four more times with various power plants .
It was the first circuit racing car to use a Chevrolet V8 and this is where the "Stovebolt Special"
name originated , in its 1st outing as the Stovebolt Special at Pebble Beach in April 1956 it took
pole position against the Ferraris of Phil Hill and Carrol Shelby and led the race until finally finishing
in 6th place.

I think this was called the "Stove Bolt Special" when put together in the fifties. The car was featured in a late fifties or very early sixties Sports Car Illustrated cover and article. Built from an HWM open wheel racer that was wrecked in the movie "The Racers" staring Kirk Douglas. I saw it in person just once at one of the Monterey Historic races. Fabulous car. PS: Please do not brake my heart and tell me this is some other car. Dennis
