Porsche arrived at Daytona in 1969 with five long-tailed 908s. The only difference to the Porsches that swept Daytona in 1968 was engine size (up from 2.2 liters to 3). Unfortunately defective exhaust systems doomed them to failure almost nearly getting some drivers asphyxiated in their closed cockpits. A Penske Lola T70 Mk. III B would survive long enough to win.

Thanks Stephen and thanks for letting me post my photos on VRL. I am not alone in my opinion that the late 60s and early 70s were the Golden Age in endurance racing with iconic cars like the 917 and 512. That era was cut way too short by the insanity that infected the FIA back then.
