8 Oct. 1978. Having a rough day qualifying for Laguna Seca’s Can Am race, a pissed off George Follmer stares into my lens. Minutes after this image was taken, a stone lodges in his throttle linkage jamming the 5 litre Chevy wide open, launching him off the track at the Cork Screw. Flying over track workers and spectators George and his car landed in a grove of Oak trees. When extradited George was somewhat worse for wear with a broken leg and internal injuries.
