Infineon Raceway

Infineon Raceway celebrated 40 years of racing during the 2008 Big O Tires Racing Season, as the Sonoma Valley facility once again hosted the most diverse racing schedule in the country. Located just 30 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the 1,600-acre facility serves as the gateway to the beautiful Sonoma Wine Country.

Highlighted by the 20th consecutive visit by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the raceway hosted seven major events in 2008, including the AMA Superbike Series, the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and the IndyCar® Series. The raceway also celebrated its 40th anniversary with a variety of exciting elements.

In addition to its slate of major events, Infineon Raceway is a year-round motorsports complex with events scheduled 340 days and 50 weekends a year. More than 500,000 fans pass through the gates during each season.

Comment by Bob DuBois on March 9, 2009 at 4:55pm: I think the "neighbors that complain" are the people at Roche winery, which is on the hilltop just northeast of the track. Also, possibly the farmers directly across hiway 37 from Infineon.

Comment by Pat Kaye on March 8, 2009 at 10:50am: Like Dennis, I spent a major portion of the '70's and '80's at Sears Point (Infineon). Most of my time there was involved with the AFM motorcycle club racing. I also live within earshot of the track, west just across the Petaluma River. Bob Bondurant lived in my neighborhood right before we moved in there.

When we were required to put silencers on our expansion chambers because the "neighbors had complained", we would look out at the wetlands to the east and try to figure out where these neighbors were.

I can usually tell who is running just by walking out in my yard. It isn't that loud except for the major event weekends. The NHRA Top Fuel Funnies and Rails rattle the windows in their brief spurts. I think its pretty cool.

Comment by Dennis Gray on February 20, 2009 at 6:42pm: Sears Point or as you revisionist call it Infineon has been one of my favorite racetracks. I have been photographing at the track since Lee Mozell was GM and Duncan Lee was Press. Some place in my "files" I have images of Bob Bondurant in a street 427 Cobra just as he lost all the brakes. I don't remember the why but Bob was giving me a ride around the track suddenly brake fluid was filling the foot well. Bob did not miss a beat just a little more sideways into the turns.
