Brian Redman's 1973 Haas/Hall Lola T-330 F5000 original bodywork
Redman's 1973 Haas/Hall Lola T-330, as modified by Jim Hall and the Chaparral works then sold to Jerry Hansen
This particular T-330 has quite an interesting history. It is the car that was partially built at the Chaparral works in Midland, Texas. It differed in many ways from the standard T-330, most notably in the radiator layout. Instead of being angled forward from the rear from the shorter of the rectangular sides, they were remounted on their longer side and angled from the cockpit forward to the bodywork sides. They were vented out the side rather than through the back. In this they were actually a prototype arrangement for the T-332. Jim Hall did a lot of other modification on the car.
There has been ongoing debate over time whether this car is Hu8 or HU14. One is the standard T-330 and the other is the Hall modified example driven by Redman. It is my belief that the Hansen car is the Hall modified chassis with the changed radiators, etc. This differs with several references, but the radiator placement is the key.
As you well know, Brian Redman drove this car to several wins in the 1973 pro season. It was sold at the end of the season to Jerry Hansen, who used it to win the SCCA Runoffs with it for four straight years. In 1974 Hansen kept it in the red color as raced by Haas/Hall in 1973. In 1975 he painted it his then signature orange color and added the all envelopoing rear deck c** airbox. He sold the car at the end of 1975 to Glen Brown (??? not completely sure of the name) who was in the state of Washington. Brown repainted the car yellow with blue. In August, 1976, Hansen bought the car back from Brown. He kept it as he got it, but added some orange trim. He kept the car through 1977 but raced it sparingly as his formula efforts were centered on FB at that time. He did drive the car Labor Day weekend at Road America in a free standing pro formula race, which he won.
When speaking to Jerry in person he had mentioned the car was never wrecked in all the time he owned and raced the car. What a great piece of racing history that is available. The body work has been on hanging from a ceiling on display for the last 25 plus years and is in perfect condition. The car is as it was the day he drove it. The car was painted white by the previous owner, but there is still remains of the old yellow, orange, and blue paint scheme under the white.
