UK ALPINE CHALLENGE

The now well-established Alpine Challenge Club Historic Regularity Rally format which offers some of the most challenging rally courses at high altitude in the Swiss Alps, is now organising its first UK rally.

The Alpine Challenge Club has been invited to organise a UK based historic rally in the Westcountry which will take place over two days on June 22^nd & 23^rd starting at Pentillie Castle, venue for the 2012 Festival of Speed and finishing approximately300 miles later in mid Devon at the Fox & Hounds country hotel. The overnight stop is at the 4 star Saunton Sands beach resort hotel.

Swapping the alpine peaks and passes for the open expanses of the Westcountry moors interspersed with the narrow lanes of Devon, the rally is open to all cars over 30 years old and places for this inaugural event are limited but if sufficient interest is forthcoming to participate in newer cars, a special ‘neo-classic’ category will be considered for inclusion. The course will cover some300 milesover two days and will take competitors through an amazingly varied landscape from the barren expanses of Bodmin to the tinyest lanes winding up and and down the deepest combes of Devon and up onto the high cliffs above Porlock in Somerset. It will encompass a dizzying array of hairpin bends, ford crossings, humpback bridges and steep ascents/descents, at one point reaching a gradient of 1:4 (25%!!).
