Please consider signing-up to participate in our upcoming charity car show for kids. Details are below. Let me start by assuring you that we had some extremely rare and expensive cars at our event last year, as we will again this year (Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, 2013 Boss 302, etc.). We did not have a single complaint from a vehicle owner at the event and our post-event anonymous survey of owners was full of positive feedback.

Our 501(c)(3) non-profit, My Very Own Book, is planning our 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck event for October 20, 2012, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Center mall (Preston Rd. and I-635 in Dallas). Last year we had 32 vehicles and more than 600 attendees. We are hoping to have your support to make the event even bigger and better this year!
Touch-a-Truck is a family friendly fundraising event in which many different vehicles, such as police cars, fire trucks, trash trucks, motorcycles, antiques, sports cars, etc., are brought to one location. Children are able to sit in, explore, honk the horn, and learn about the vehicle from the person who brought it to the event and drives such a vehicle on a regular basis. It is an excellent opportunity for children to have fun while also learning about services/jobs/vehicles in our community. We are writing to request you support our endeavor by bringing your “cool vehicle” and staying at the event to teach the children about the vehicle.
My Very Own Book runs reading incentive programs in elementary schools in low-income neighborhoods. In our program, students read outside of school hours and are rewarded with a certificate and a new, free book of their choice every six week period. We are working to increase literacy skills and put new books into the homes of families who often can’t afford to purchase their own new books. During this past school year, students earned 11,865 new books for reading for more than 9.5 million minutes outside of school hours.
Please know that I do not make this request lightly. We will gratefully recognize participants on our website, in various event promotions, and on signage at the event. We also invite participants to bring literature about their organization, company and/or vehicle they might want available to families at the event. We will have volunteers on hand to assist you and provide breaks. We will place club members together. We want you to have fun too!
Thank you for your consideration of my request. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have. If you would like to participate, please go to www.myveryownbook.org/touch-a-truck.html to fill out a short participation form. Please e-mail a picture of your vehicle to me at kelley.vanauken@myveryownbook.org.
Sincerely,
Kelley Van Auken
