The Ligurian Riviera has always been one of the holiday destinations most desired by the Milanese but though relatively near to the Lombard capital ,this sea has never been easy to reach. It requires a certain effort to cross the Apennine passes.

Because of this difficulty and with the advent of competitive road sports this route became the scene of the classic Milan - Sanremo cycling race. In the past , however, it was also the scene of a fascinating car race that symbolized the competitive motoring sports of the Milanese, among others, from the 1930s to the early 70s.

The Milan-Sanremo cup began in 1906 . Started again in 1929 , was interrupted by the Second World War, then finished completely in 1973.
